Warburton is a small country town, surrounded by tall mountains in the upper Yarra Valley. It has a rich history, founded by the great gold rush in the mid 1800's, it was then followed by an equally rich timber harvesting from the early 1900's. In the 1920's Warburton became popular with Melbournes gentry, honeymooners and holiday makers as a retreat from the rat race of city life. Here they could relax in the peaceful sub alpine climate amidst the magnificent forests and fern gullies that surround the clear headwaters of the Yarra River.
